Samantha Ulan, Powerful Television Force, Dies at 32
b. February 22, 1989 d. November 18, 2021
For the last 9 years, Samantha Ulan, always known as Sam, has been the “it girl” of Television. From her arrival in Los Angeles as a college intern to her rise in power in New York’s biggest executive suites, Sam barely batted an eyelash as she revolutionized the industry.
“She is a force to be reckoned with,” said David E. Kelley in an interview with the New York Times in 2014. He worked with her on a number of her early projects, known to be one of the first to give Sam her jump-start into fame. “She’s really earning her keep, definitely a lot of talent. She’ll go far, I’m sure of it.”
Sam entered the limelight when her affair with Jason Segal broke tabloid headlines. The then struggling college graduate faced a hailstorm of paparazzi but never despaired. “You know what, we met on set, we had our moment, and it’s over now. I can only say I’m flattered that TMZ cares where I buy my lattes.” Her sharp-tongued responses intrigued a nation of celeb-ro-centric youth.
By her 26th birthday, Sam rose to the head of a powerful production company in Los Angeles and relocated to New York City. After the move, her nam finally shed its Tabloid reputation when she made the Forbes 500. With her professional status secured, Sam wed Devin Fuller, her long time fiancĂ©, in 2018. Her marriage to Fuller was picture perfect. “I thought I was happy before him, now I know I didn’t know what happy was,” said Sam in an interview on 60 Minutes just after her wedding.
She continued to shape the world of television and by 2020, she was the single most powerful women executive in America. Newsweek, eager to profile her, sat down for an interview with her in October of this year. When asked what she still had yet to accomplish, Sam had this to say.
“After this project I’m working on in London I’m planning a prolonged hiatus. I’m pregnant, we just found out! I’m bursting with excitement and plans. I tell you, I have the fame and fortune, but a family is all I ever wanted.”
Samantha was returning from Wynnewood, Pennsylvania after visiting her family. Her train derailed on it's way to New York City, tumbling off the tracks outside of Edison, New Jersey. Samantha was 32 years of age at the time of her passing.

Samantha is survived by her mother, Judy, father Stephan, sister, Jessica, and husband, Devin. In lieu of flowers, her family asks that donations be made to the Samantha Ulan Scholarship Fund of Lower Merion.

EDIT: This is for my class...just so it doesn't seem like I'm totally morbid. kthx
