I don't know what you're going through

When you pass someone on the street do you smile? Do you avoid eye contact? I'm not talking about people you know, I'm specifically talking about people you know nothing about. Sometimes I smile at people passing by, and on those few occasions that our eyes meet my mind races, and I think:

"I don't know what you're going through."

It makes me wonder, too. I wonder if they're okay. Maybe they have to run to pick up their child. What if I'm the first person to smile at them in days? Maybe they're not okay. Maybe they lost their cat? Or just recently lost a friendship? Maybe they're hungover...maybe they're depressed...maybe they're failing out of school.

So when I see people, and our eyes lock, I make sure I smile. Because I don't know what they're going through.

Sam... i thought i was the only one who did that! Really tho... i do that all the time, and you get such a nice, hopeful feeling the few times a year that a complete stranger smiles back... just because... humanity. I dunno, anyway...

does that make any sense?

I miss you! Let's do something soon! I'm done with all my homework until finals!!!
